AG Displays designs, develops and manufacturers custom "Dual Mode" backlighting for liquid crystal displays used by the military and public safety. In order to achieve this "Dual Mode" system, we integrate a High Bright Edge lit LED with an innovative backlighting system and NVIS compliant (Night vision imaging system) capabilities into the panel. In doing so, we offer a High Bright mode solution for your daytime/sunlight readable scenarios and then with the simple flick of a switch, go directly into your second of the "Dual Modes" being your Night Vision mode.
There are multiple benefits to using a "Dual Mode" backlighting system from an increased operating lifespan of your panel, to lower power consumption. Our dual mode backlighting is constructed of layers that are assembled together. Each additional layer increases the brightness. The backlight is laminated to ensure the brightness uniformity. The light source is bundled and connects to the remote NVIS compliant light source with Class A or B Filters.
Our backlights are highly durable and once installed have proven to rarely need to be replaced. The remote light source (LED) offers anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 hours operation life depending on power output and can be easily replaced when needed. The power source used to light the backlight panel can be driven as low as 10-20mA at only 2 Volts Direct Current. This power source requires much less power than EL, CCFL, or LED and does not require and inverter. Another added benefit would be the compact size. The dual mode NVIS compliant panels are thin, typically 0.068 inches thick or 1.7 mm and can be constructed even thinner if needed. The power source is also much smaller than that of EL or CCFL inverters allowing for a more compact enclosure design. No extra cooling system is needed with the NVIS backlighting system nor do you need to worry about EMI interference. Extreme environments are not a problem. The NVIS backlight remain unaffected by extremes in humidity (0% to 100%) and in temperatures ranging from -40° C to 85° C.
AG Displays currently offers the "Dual Mode" system for panel sizes ranging from 3.5" to 15.3" and larger models are now being prototyped.
